    JJS Organized DurjogMela (Disaster Fair) in Participation of Secondary School Students to Celebrate National Disaster Preparedness Day 2019

    JJS has facilitated Morrelgonj Upazila Disaster Management Committee to organizeDurjogMela 2019 (Disaster Fair) in participation of secondary school students to celebrate National Disaster Preparedness Day on 10th March, 2019 at Government Girls High School, Morrelgonj.  JJS is implementing “Mobilizing and Organizing Humanitarian Operations and Risk Reduction Activities in Disaster Prone Coastal Areas of Bangladesh’’ project in Morrelgonj and Sharankhola upazila under Bagerhat district in partnership with ShaplaNeer, Japan funded by JICA .JJS is organizing DurjogMela 1st time in the working area setting “ Learning Disaster Management, Copping with Cyclone’’ theme. There are 200 students participated in the event covering 20 secondary educational institutions of 4 union of Morrelgonj upazila. Participants presented their school based disaster management plan and also presented their work plan through cultural performance.

    MOHORA Project is working for building cyclone disaster resilient community through implementing disaster management plan through good coordination among the disaster actors. To reach the project objectives and goal the project is working with 3600 students covering 63 secondary level educational institutions at Sharankhola and Morrelgonj upazila on School DRR activities. The project is facilitating disaster preparedness activities through using IEC materials at school level that will help family level disaster preparedness and community level disaster preparedness as well.

    DurjogMela (Disaster Fair) is a new concept in Bangladesh. We are following “Bousai-Koushien“ a student participated disaster preparedness competition in Japan. In this year students of 63 secondary level educational institutions are participated in the competition that will increase leadership and voluntarism of students.

    The event inaugurates with our national songs chaired by Mr. Mesbah Uddin, AC Land Morrelgonj upazila. Md. Anisuzzaman, Program Officer, ShaplaNeer put his welcome speech in the opening of the event. 10 educational institutions awarded for their performance and all the participants committed to work on disaster preparedness activities at household and community level.
