    District Level Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue for Brahmaputra River Basin in Jamalpur

    On 26th September 2017, JJS organized a “District Level Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue for Brahmaputra River Basin” in District Conference Room, Jamalpur district under “Building capacity of civil society organizations & communities for effective engagement in trans-boundary decision-making process of Brahmaputra River” project. Resource Person Dr. Mustafa Saroar;Professor and Head of Urban and Rural Planning Discipline, KUET facilitated the dialogue session. Ahmed Kabir, Deputy Commissioner; Khandker Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud, DDLG; Md. Rasel, ADC General; Md. Abu Hanif, Deputy Director of DAE; Md. Mazharul Islam, Sub Divisional Engineer of BWDB and ShafiqZaman, President of Press club; Jamalpur were present in this session. Deputy Commissioner facilitated a session on climate change impact and adaptation. He suggested for tree plantation especially coconut and palm tree for preventing river erosion and also suggested for concentrating on alternative income generating activities like livestock farming. DD Agriculture suggested for preparing temporary seed bed at higher places during Flood period. He also suggested for water tolerant (15 days) paddy cultivation and receive advice from upazila agriculture officer on this issue. ADC General suggested for identifying flood vulnerable zone of this area and also suggested for establishing their settlements far away from that zone. Resource Person conducted sessions on several specific issues like Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), Brahmaputra River Basis & the Drivers of Changes, Water Treaty and Bangladesh National Water Policies and Treaty. Community representatives from Islampur Upazila; Sheikh Nazmul Huda, M. M. Chishty and Md. Saiful Islam from JJS also presented in the meeting.
