Regional seminar on Disaster vulnerabilities of women and girls in Koyra Upazila

A regional-level seminar on disaster vulnerabilities of women and girls in Koyra was organized on 27 February 2024. The chief guest of the seminar was Sadia Afrin, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Khulna. Additionally, various government officials, representatives of civil society, media personnel, academia, representatives of Union Parishad, local club members and residents were present in the seminar. Also, representatives from SHAPLA NEER and JJS were present at the event.

In the seminar, Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Associate Professor of the Urban and Rural Planning Discipline, Khulna University and lead researcher of the study presented the keynote paper on the research activity conducted under the PROSTUTI project regarding the disaster vulnerability of women and girls of Koyra where he highlighted the real situation of women’s and girls’ vulnerability due to disasters in the Koyra region.

The panel discussion featured by Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Head of the Urban and Rural Planning Discipline at Khulna University, and Abu Hena Mostofa Jamal Poplu, Special Correspondent of Maasranga TV. Additionally, two representatives of Union Parishad, Koyra and a female resident gave speech at the seminar where they shared various issues and challenges regarding the disaster vulnerabilities of women.
