    Annual General Meeting 2024 of the Central Children’s Forum under the SCVL Project

    🌍 Empowering Young Leaders for Climate Action 🌱

    Strengthening Coastal Children Forum on Climate Change and DRR actions at central level with involvement of Upazila level children forum and promoting coordination among children forums at different level in short Annual General Meeting – 2024 held on 23rd December 2024 at CSS Ava Center, Khulna. Children from 10 upazilas and the city level forum came to participate in the Annual General Meeting 2024 with their guardian. On 24th December 2024, the newly elected Executive Body of the Children Forum received training about climate change knowledge and leadership skills.

    The session was conducted by Mr. Gahar Naim Wahra, a renowned Specialist in Climate Change and Disaster Management from Dhaka. Where Mr. ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive Director of JJS, also facilitated the event with practical skill, inspiring the young leaders with his words of encouragement. The program brought together 48 child leaders from 10 coastal upazilas and the Khulna city area, representing a collective voice of 2,256 children.

    đź“Ś Understanding Climate Change, Leadership and Capacity Building:

    Mr. Wahra focused on building essential leadership qualities such as communication, decision-making, advocacy and teamwork. The young leaders were guided on how to inspire their peers, organize impactful events, conduct community outreach, and engage effectively with stakeholders. Participants explored the pressing challenges coastal communities face, such as rising sea levels, flood, cyclone and extreme weather events.

    đź“Ś Strategic Cooperation and Action Planning:

    Mr. Wahra emphasized climate change and disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies, including preparedness plans, community education, and resilience-building activities that the children forum can implement. The session highlighted the importance of collaboration among forum members and with external stakeholders. The young leaders learned to align their activities with broader community needs, ensuring impactful and sustainable action. This session marked a significant step in empowering the Children Forum to tackle climate change and disaster management challenges while promoting child-led initiatives.

    đź“Ś Instructional Speeches by Special Guests:

    Sadia Afrin, Additional District Commissioner (Education & ICT): Mrs. Afrin shared her thoughts and interacted with the children’s group. She acknowledged the project’s progress, noting that the team had successfully conducted sessions empowering children to speak confidently about climate change issues. She emphasized that the children’s ability to voice their concerns aligned with the project’s objectives. Additionally, she observed the challenges faced by children due to climate change and DRR issues, committing to addressing these challenges with the support of upazila administration.
